I've only had the SC for a month or so and already I broke it
After a particularly spirited but brief race with a friend I found that my car idles wrong - it cycles between 1000 and 2500 RPM. So this weekend I took a look at the car to see if I could find the problem. I noticed that the big vac hose for the PCV valve on the oil separator box had popped off, so I put it back on and started the car up, but the strange idle was still there. So then I just watched and listened as it ran and used a can of starter fluid to try and find the leak.. From listening to the hissing noise and my experiments with the starter fluid, I think it's leaking vacuum from the gasket between the SC and the intake manifold. Damn that sucks, I gotta take the SC off again.
I called JR this morning and they said they will ship me (2nd day) another gasket.. They guy I spoke with thought it was unlikely for that gasket to fail, however. He thought it was more likely that the allen screws vibrated loose.. Seems unlikely to me since I lock-tited em up pretty good but I'll check when I get home..
On the other car-issue, the OIFT Project is coming along alright.. I finished the communication spec, and I've been running little test programs on the HC16 board.. Last night I measured the interrupt timing latency.
It looks like I'll be able to meet all of the timing constraints so that the OIFT will be able to do the boost-dependent timing retard as well as MAP sensor translation and just about everything else that you want it to do. My DSM friend Dan said that he's been getting a lot of interest in the project in the DSM world - I told him that the Honda community response has been more lukewarm - I've only gotten a very few emails and page hits. Oh well, I'm sure everyone will pay attention when I get everything running and start posting results.

Since you're replacing the gasket, you might want to consider putting on the hondata gasket...keep things a lot cooler.

You actually had a physical gasket? I just used some gasket maker.

Hmmm, you guys just used some Permatex or similar? My kit came with a square-shaped paper gasket to put between the SC and the intake manifold. Guess it wasn't too strong - it really surprises me that it blew out.. Maybe I'll just replace it with gasket maker.. On the other hand the guy at JR told me not to use any sealant with the gasket. But maybe it would be better not to use the gasket at all.. I don't know. Too many choices, not enough solid answers..

The Hondata intake manifold gasket lowers temps by limiting the "heatsoak" from the head of the engine going to the SC manifold. I have one on my setup.

Richard, it might be just that gasket or you might have put it together incorrectly (may be there is a kink in the gasket when you tried to put the charger on)? I have my charger for a year or so now..and now I'm running around 11psi..my gasket stock JR gasket is just fine. Blowing that gasket is quite difficult.
